Dear friends and colleagues: As the chairperson of Chinese-American Computer Association (CCA),I would like to share some history of CCA activities with all of you. I still recall when I was the president of CCA in 1992, after listening carefully to members of the CCA staff, I soon realized that we shared a set of common goals, which were: to unite and to enhance our professions, to promote entrepreneurship and trade, to bridge the business, government, academic communities and media, and to promote our image and the betterment of our society. In order to achieve these goals, in that year, we published the first issue of CCA Journal and we have conducted twenty monthly seminars with more than fifty guest speakers since then. This year, we rejoice in the participation of the most capable staff in the growing CCA. On September 24, 1994, we will host our first full day international conference: "Computing and Civilization". The theme of the day time symposium is "Information Millennium". Computer technologies progress rapidly, making great impacts on human lives. Topics of our symposium sessions cover: information superhighway, information systems, art and multi-media, venture capital, entrepreneur, career development and networking and Taiwan program. We will have in-depth discussions of these areas. The theme for the evening banquet is "Sensation Millennium". With the new tech, new sensation, new millennium carnival, we hope to create a most memorable night for the audience. In the new millennium, we hope for a renaissance. On one hand, we want to explore new horizons of science and technology. On the other hand, we hope for a happy marriage of technology and humanity, so that technology won't be harmful, and humanity gain new blood. Green technologies, network cyberspace, technology transfer from defense to civil industries are some of the examples. How to deal with the changing technologies is an issue computer scientists have to face professionally. CCA hopes to continuously provide services, such as workshops, seminars, etc., for our members to enhance their competitiveness in a dynamic job market. Friends, computer technologies are progressing, world economy is changing, human civilization is evolving. Let's form a techno-economic bloc; combine technology, economy and humanity; create a beautiful new civilization together. Yours respectfully, |
